For the most part, commercial real estate is a business of independent contractors (agents) who focus on servicing and developing personal clients. In most environments, agents cultivate these clients to serve their own individual needs as best they can. This means that typically, agents do not share deals or clients with other agents, including agents within the same office. This common practice leaves it up to the individual agent to attempt to serve his or her client from their efforts and their efforts alone.
